American Express Gold Card Benefits I Actually Use
While traveling through Newark Liberty International Airport, I came across American Express advertising highlighting dining and travel benefits. The advertisements pictured were promoting the Platinum Card, but they got me thinking about something I use regularly myself: the benefits included with my American Express Gold Card.
There are several Gold Card benefits that can be easy to overlook. Four of the benefits I use or pay particular attention to can provide up to $424 in potential annual value when fully utilized.
Important: Enrollment and other requirements apply to certain benefits. Benefits and terms can change, so always verify the current terms directly with American Express.
Up to $84 a Year at Dunkin’
Eligible American Express Gold Card Members can receive up to $7 per month in statement credits after using an enrolled Gold Card for eligible purchases at U.S. Dunkin’ locations.
That’s up to $84 per calendar year if you take advantage of the benefit every month. Enrollment is required.
Up to $120 in Annual Dining Credits
The Gold Card also offers up to $10 per month in statement credits when an enrolled card is used for eligible purchases with participating dining partners.
Current participating partners include Grubhub (including Seamless), Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Guys, The Cheesecake Factory and Wonder.
Using the full $10 credit each month can provide up to $120 per year. Enrollment is required.
Up to $100 a Year at Resy Restaurants
Gold Card Members can receive up to $100 in statement credits each calendar year on eligible purchases at more than 10,000 qualifying U.S. Resy restaurants.
- Up to $50 from January through June
- Up to $50 from July through December
Enrollment is required. This is one benefit worth remembering before each six-month period ends because unused credits don’t simply become another $50 monthly benefit.
$120 in Uber Cash
Add your American Express Gold Card to your Uber account and you can receive $10 in Uber Cash each month.
The Uber Cash can be used toward eligible Uber rides and Uber orders in the U.S. An American Express Card must be selected for the transaction and additional terms apply.
That’s Up to $424 From These Four Benefits
Dunkin’: Up to $84 per year- Dining Credit: Up to $120 per year
- Resy: Up to $100 per year
- Uber Cash: Up to $120 per year
Total potential annual value from these four benefits: $424.
The American Express Gold Card currently has a $325 annual fee. That doesn’t automatically mean everyone will receive $424 of real-world value. A credit is only valuable if you actually use the applicable service or restaurant, and each benefit has its own requirements.
Don’t Forget About Membership Rewards Points
The credits aren’t the only benefits. Eligible Gold Card purchases can currently earn:
- 4X Membership Rewards points at restaurants worldwide, on up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1X.
- 4X points at U.S. supermarkets, on up to $25,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1X.
- 5X points on prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App.
- 3X points on flights booked directly with airlines, through AmexTravel.com or through the Amex Travel App.

South Florida Savings Guy Recommendation
If you already have an American Express Gold Card, take a few minutes to review the benefits available on your account and make sure you’re actually using the ones that fit your normal spending.
Personally, benefits such as Dunkin’, dining, Uber and Resy are the types of credits I pay attention to because they can provide savings on purchases I may already be making.
I wouldn’t recommend spending money solely to use a credit. The savings are most valuable when the benefit replaces something you would have purchased anyway.
